Epilepsy & EpilepsY Surgery
Epilepsy means a person has at least two unprovoked seizures occurring more than 24 hours apart, one unprovoked seizure and a probability of further seizures similar to the general recurrence risk (approximately 60% or more) over the subsequent 10 years after two unprovoked seizures, or the diagnosis of an epileptic syndrome.
Epilepsy is diagnosed with proper history by the patient and witness who has witnessed the event.
Patients may require further investigations to classify epilepsy - EEG and
MRI Brain depending on type of Epileptic Syndrome.
Most of the time Seizures get controlled with appropriate anti-epileptic medications in proper dosage.
About 20-25 % patients with Epilepsy have continued seizures on medications, they require evaluation for epilepsy surgery.
